Russian Cybercriminal Extradited to US in Crypto Crime Case

A Russian cybercriminal, Deniss Zolotarjovs, has been charged within the US with crimes associated to his involvement in a cybercrime group identified for extorting victims and laundering cryptocurrency. The 33-year-old Moscow resident was indicted in Cincinnati, Ohio, on costs of conspiracy to commit cash laundering, wire fraud and Hobbs Act racketeering. Arrested in Georgia in December 2023 and not too long ago extradited to the US, Zolotarjovs is accused of being a key member of a cybercriminal group that steals victims’ delicate information and calls for cryptocurrency ransoms to forestall the discharge of the stolen info. The group additionally runs an internet site that leaks or auctions stolen information. Zolotaryovs is alleged to have actively participated in laundering cryptocurrency from these ransom funds. This marks the primary extradition of a member of this group to the US, highlighting worldwide cooperation towards cybercrime.
